I had more fun collecting every spell and grimoire I could find, taking the abilities that gave me extra spells and the ones that would allow you to cast a low level per-rest spell each encounter instead. I also used the mage watcher's soul bound weapon for the entire game as it was a great ranged fall back. That made him easy to kill in the front or second line. I wasn't able to successfully run him as a front line or even second line fighter as i needed to keep his armor light for better casting. Throw a bunch of AoE spells and nothing will be alive.įor POE1 my watcher was a mage. You're now untouchable (if you're in any danger, just throw on Arcane Veil) and you have boosted accuracy. In my solo PotD run, the general approach for non-boss enemies was this: one of Llengrath's many spells + Iron Skin/Spirit Shield/ Infuse with Vital Essence + Eldritch Aim. It would be pointless to cast all that every encounter since the combo could easily destroy most enemies. The combo you mentioned: Arcane Veil + Spirit Shield + Wizards Double + Spirit Lance + Martial Power is great, but you're correct. If you choose a few defensive ones, you're good to go.Īt least in my experience, the goal of a melee wizard is not to be a tank, but to be an unstoppable killing machine. If you add Arcane Veil, nothing will be able to hit you.Īt later stages of the game, you get Spell Mastery, which lets you choose a few spells that you can cast for free every encounter. Later, any two of Spirit Shield, Bulwark against the Elements, Concelhaut's Corrosive Siphon or Concelhaut's Parasitic Staff, Infuse with Vital Essence, Llengrath's Displaced Image, Iron Skin, Llengrath's Mental Shields, Llengrath's Physical Shields, Llengrath's Safeguard (top tier), Citzal's Martial Power, Llengrath's Siphoning Image and Minoletta's Piercing Sigil will be enough. You only need to cast all the buffs in the early stages of the game. The beauty of melee wizards is that they're not just good at being tanky, but also at dealing massive amounts of damage. I've solo'd the game on PotD with a melee wizard, and they are very effective at killing everything and anything. Melee wizard is my absolute favorite to play.
